When co-editor Toni Miller and I first sat down to brainstorm what would become UNDER HER SKIN, we knew we wanted to do three things: amplify the voices of women in horror, from poets to artists; produce a stunning collection of dark verse; and launch a powerful series that would not only showcase the talent of womxn and non-binary femmes in horror, but be a catalyst by which we could find ways to give back to our community--donating proceeds to organizations, grants, and scholarships to support womxn in horror.
We did not expect our initial call for submissions to be met with such enthusiasm, nor to have such a tough time whittling down the number of submissions to a single collection! The number of submissions, and the incredible amount of talent on the table, was absolutely jaw-dropping. In the end we assembled what we best felt represented the construct of body horror, and we could not be more proud of the poems in this inaugural collection. From Bram Stoker-award winning poets, to poet laureates, and fresh new voices, each and every single one of the pieces in the collection is a critical piece of the showcase's soul.
Beyond the stunning list of contributing poets, we are also honored and humbled to have a foreword from Linda D. Addison and interior illustrations by Marge Simon included in the collection. I am so inspired by these two women, and endlessly grateful for the support of the project.
And, with so much talent within the pages of UNDER HER SKIN, we must also give due to credit to cover artist Lynne Hansen, who's absolutely stunning art truly set the tone for the collection. Her cover illustration breathes life onto every page and captures the rawness and delicacy of the poems within.
On behalf of Black Spot Books, Toni, and myself, THANK YOU to The Nerd Daily, FANGORIA, and SciFi Now for sharing in the cover reveal. Check out the full ToC below, including a couple of special sneak peeks, and upcoming news!
